Denali

You could argue that this had always been the name of North America's highest peak – at least "for centuries", which is how long "the Koyukon people who inhabit the area around the mountain" have referred to it thus (according to Wikipedia). It was named Mount McKinley in 1896, by "a gold prospector" to whom even Wikipedia doesn't give a name, and in 1915 the (US) Federal Government adopted that name officially. The state of Alaska officially recognised the name Denali in 1975, and the Federal Government followed suit in 2015 as part of an official visit to Alaska by President Barack Obama.

1896 was the year in which William McKinley was elected as the 25th President of the USA. He was assassinated in September 1901, six months into his second term.
